Pre-wedding engagement shoots are a great way to learn how to feel more relaxed in front of the camera before your big day. Our engagement sessions are fun, informal, and offer a chance for us all to get to know each other better in the run up to your wedding.
Most couples have lots of questions before their engagement shoot, and unless you’re a professional model, the idea of being in front of the camera is probably pretty nerve-wracking. The good news is that preparation and lots of insight into what you can expect goes a long way to ease those nerves.
The first thing to consider is location. The possibilities are endless and honestly, quite overwhelming. Brainstorm locations that mean something to you as a couple; perhaps the spot where your partner proposed, or the place you went to on your first date?
Lots of our couples choose to hold their pre-wedding shoot at their wedding venue. This enables them to make the most of a beautiful location, and to have a mini rehearsal for their big day, which really boosts their confidence.
Don’t be afraid to keep it simple either. Don’t rule out your favourite coffee shop, or the local park that you walk your dog in every day, or even your home. They are perfect locations if they make you feel happy and relaxed.
If you just want somewhere beautiful, but you’re stuck for ideas, then we have lots and lots of recommendations.
Next, it’s time to begin planning what you’ll wear. It’s a good idea to match the mood of the location, and wear something you might actually wear to that spot. Other than that, as obvious as it sounds, just wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in. If you love wearing jeans, wear jeans. If you love to get dressed up, then make the most of this golden opportunity. These are your photographs, so look the way you want to look.
We’ve created a Pinterest board packed with e-shoot outfit inspiration, in case you’d like some help to get the creative juices flowing.
Once the day of your engagement shoot arrives, there’s no getting away from the fact that having your photograph taken by a stranger is going to feel a bit odd, at least at first, but our best advice is to focus on your partner. Look into their eyes, try to make them laugh, hold onto each other and keep each other feeling relaxed and comfortable. Embrace the situation and have a bit of fun. Geoff has a natural talent for helping people to relax in front of the camera, and will give you some simple direction when required. We guarantee that you’ll relax much more quickly and easily than you’d expect, and you will have lots of beautiful photographs to celebrate your engagement, and treasure forever.
Happy wedding planning!
